It was constructed by Spanish missionaries in 1597, and the original stone and lime "calicanto" wall and archway are still intact and unaltered, other than the removal of some remnants of the adobe rendering that had been falling off due to age. The chapel's original thatched roof at some point was replaced with iron sheets held in place by large granite rocks. The chapel has been carefully restored, and converted once more, into a dining facility separate to the main house, containing with a bar and guest seating.
